WHO THEY ARE

Makayla Golden

7TH GRADE

For Christmas each year my parents have made us figure out what we are giving as gifts to my family.  They always say, “You have to give in order to receive” so each year my brothers and I have to figure out what we want to make as a gift. Last year I decided to make hot chocolate bombs since we all love hot chocolate on the cold winter days.  I made a couple to try and then my mom posted a video of me demonstrating how they work on Facebook just to see if anyone else might be interested. I had lots of interest, I got orders for 68 on the first day and by the next day I had 179 more orders! The orders kept rolling in each and every day, I was making about 88 cocoa bombs per day. I had different flavors for people to choose from, peppermint, cookies and cream, original, white chocolate and cinnamon.

As people got their orders they would post them online and tag my business page. As word got out, I had many orders from people that lived out of state wanting me to ship them some cocoa bombs for Christmas. My mom helped me ship them to many states including, Indiana, Ohio, Florida, Michigan and Australia. I sold almost 2500 total and have many people waiting on them this year too! Over the summer I had people ask if I was going to do them again this year so my mom made a pre-order list and I have 1400 pre-orders. I asked for more molds and chocolate melters for my birthday to make melting chocolate easier and faster. Now I can make 36 hot chocolate bombs at once instead of 6.

Starting my own business has made me happy as a clam!  My mom has helped me learn to budget my money so I have enough to buy supplies but also have some to spend for myself. I was able to buy myself a four-wheeler, invest money into the stock market, buy Christmas gifts for my family and have some money to save too. I have loved this being my own thing and my brothers and parents have helped so much with packaging and shipping to make sure all the steps get done.  I can’t wait to see how much I can do this year and to continue to make my customers coming back for more.
