SEPTEMBER 2022 CONNECTIONS

Welcome back, everyone! We are excited to get the 2022-23 school year started!

We are excited to welcome new and returning students to the 22-23 school year at our Back to School Celebration on September 9th.


WHAT: Wisconsin Connections Academy's Back to School Celebration and National Honor Society Induction

WHEN: Friday, September 9, 2022 8:30am - 1pm (NHS Induction starts @ 12:30pm)

WHY: To meet and greet with your teachers, meet other students, and parents have a chance for a Q&A! Let's celebrate the 2022-23 school year!

 

NEED TO KNOW:

HEAD COUNT DAY: Please plan to be available on Friday, September 16, 2022 for teacher contact. Failure to participate may result in your child being withdrawn from WCA. For more details, visit: HEAD COUNT DAY

 

COMPUTER/CURRICULUM & SCHOOL SUPPLIES: There have been some unexpected delays in the curriculum and computer shipments this year. Click the following link for more information on receiving the computer and curriculum: COMPUTER/CURRICULUM

Headset not working? All students are required to have a working headset for virtual classes. If your student’s headset is not working, please call 1-800-382-6010 and speak with a technical support representative.

 

WHITE MAILING ENVELOPES: White prepaid envelopes have been mailed out to all families. These are the same from last year. If you are needing more throughout the school year, please fill out the following form: WHITE ENVELOPE REQUEST


NOTE: PLEASE remember to put your name on your work/provide a return address on the envelope so the teachers know whose work is being sent in.

 

VIRTUAL CLASSES: All WCA students are required to participate in virtual classes. Virtual classes begin the week of September 12. Your child can access a virtual classroom and the VIRTUAL CLASS SCHEDULES by logging into the Pearson Online Classroom and going to the virtual library (book icon). CLASSLINK: Reminder, our district uses a product called ClassLink. ClassLink is a “Single Single-On” that allows you to get into all the websites you use most with one click log in. For details on accessing your district login information, go to: CLASSLINK INFORMATION

 

WCA TESTING GUIDELINES: To reinforce the academic integrity of the curriculum and its assessment, Connections Academy has created randomized and timed assessments for different courses for students in grades 6-12. Parents, please be reminded that online tests cannot be changed. Thus, the answers that are marked and then submitted are the only answers that will be scored. SAVE YOUR MATH WORK!: In order to better assist your child in math, it is helpful for the teachers to view the daily math work. Therefore, all daily work will need to be submitted to the teacher at the end of each unit. If all the daily work is received, full credit will be awarded.

COVID 19 GUIDLINES: The Appleton Area School District will be following the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction’s (DPI) recommendation for a measured approach to managing COVID-19 for the 2022-2023 school year. Learn more here: COVID 19 GUIDLINES

 

ATTENDANCE CHALLENGES: School attendance, all day, every day, is incredibly impactful on students’ academic success starting in preschool and continuing through high school. Learn more here: ATTENDANCE CHALLENGES

ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS 6-12: For more information on the English Language Arts curriculum for grades 6-12 and accessing resources, please visit: ELA 6-12

 

OPTIONAL ART CLASS 1-8: Art is optional for students in grades 1-8. There will be no grade given whether your student decides to participate in this course or not. The teachers skipped the lessons and all of the assignments/assessments in the grade book.

 

WCA CONTACT INFORMATION: The virtual school bill requires WCA to provide parents the contact information for Appleton Area School District’s Board of Education, Appleton Area School District’s Administrators, and the Wisconsin Connections Academy’s Charter Board. This information can be found in the virtual library by going to My School: Wisconsin > Parent Resources > click the link called Contact Information for Virtual Charter School under the Resource section.

APPLETON AREA SCHOOL DISTRICT REMINDERS: When you open enrolled your student to become a student at Wisconsin Connections Academy, your student also became a part of the Appleton Area School District. IMMUNIZATION REQUIREMENTS FOR INCOMING 6TH GRADERS: Parents of incoming 6th grade students are required to have their children vaccinated or claim a waiver before the 2022-23 fall semester. For more specific requirement information, visit: IMMUNIZATION REQUIREMENTS: 6TH

 

BULLY AWARENESS: The Appleton Area School District and the staff of Wisconsin Connections Academy are committed to providing a safe, secure, and healthy environment that allows all students to maximize their learning potential. The Board of Education and staff consider bullying to be detrimental to the health and safety of students and disruptive to the educational process. FREE AND REDUCED MEALS FORM: The Free and Reduced Meals (FARM) forms are now available. There are benefits to filling out the form even though WCA does not provide lunch. If your family qualifies, school fees may be waived as long as you also complete the sharing information form. This includes field trip fees for WCA students.
